BACKGROUND: The Wicked + The Divine ❚ Amaterasu

One of thirteen gods incarnated and living as human until being awakened during the latest Recurrence. It is an occurrence that happens every ninety years and has gone on for thousand of years. For two years they live with incredible power, spreading their gospel and living beyond what others can only imagine. They perform miracles, changing the very nature of the world and leaving lasting influences on the population. After those two years? They die and await for their next rebirth on Earth.

Before Amaterasu there was Emily Greenaway, a young woman from a well-to-do family and a privileged upbringing. She first became interested in Shinto as a young girl reading books in her father's library which grew into love when she visited Japan at age eight, filled with visits to holy sights and experienced it all first hand. Her father dies not long after this and it shakes Amaterasu to her very core with a lasting effect left on her even after her ascension into godhood. At some point she went through a "druid-y" phase and changed her name to Hazel before joining the online Pantheon fandom, where her and Lucifer first met and she was a fan of Cassandra's works on the Recurrences.

Then everything changed on her seventeenth birthday. The teen who admitted to being lost and confused was watching the sunset when Ananke appears and brings her into godhood. She performs throughout the rest of December but her biggest concert thus far was not until the one hosted at the New Year began in more than one way. It is afterwards, during an interview with Cassandra, that assassins attack before they are killed by Lucifer. In the aftermath, she attempts to stop Lucifer when she escapes prison but is ultimately unable to stop her before she is killed by Ananke.

Following the multitude of deaths, Ammy meets with the others in a private hospital after Tara's death and is hastily dissolves into once the Norns arrive with Cassandra (now Urdr) It grows to a point that the usually easy going Amaterasu transports the Norns and herself to Japan where her anger further grows. In a thoughtless moment she pulls Urdr into the sky and turns into an artificial sun above Hiroshima in her rage. She manages to calm down once she realizes just how bad her actions are and even calmly talks with Urdr though it is clear there are still major differences in their beliefs and current status as gods between them.

After the appearance of Persephone, who she believes to be an enemy based on Ananke's word, she joins what remains of those still loyal to her in retrieving Minerva from the underworld after she is kidnapped. Although she "rescues" the young goddess, she realizes her mistakes when Ananke murders Minerva's parents and attempts to murder her. She is able to escape through use of her solar teleportation and finds Urdr, hoping she would know what to do in the situation.

In the wake of Ananke's death by Persephone's hand the young group has free reign to speak and do as they wish. Amaterasu clearly grieves of the deaths of those they lost and her own blindness to Ananke's intentions due to her trust in their mentor. By the New Year, she has gotten her smile back as she celebrates her birthday and first year as a Goddess by kissing Persephone as a greeting into the New Year.

PERSONALITY:

To say that godhood is an important aspect of Amaterasu's life is something of a major understatement. Described as "sappy", "hippy-dippy" and "incapable of jealousy" it is very clear that she is above all- kind. In a way she tries to be the bond that holds the group together as peaceful gods and, above all, works to avoid any bloodshed. Despite death literally hanging over her head, she believes divinity is worth dying before twenty and believes in doing the best for people with her power. The one constant belief she has held since the start is that this has all happened for a reason just as everything happens for a reason.

Bright as the sun, Ammy seems to be the ultimate embodiment of compassion and hope for the best. She is overly kind, friendly to everyone and tries so very hard to be a good person. She has lived life as she wanted to live it, fought against what is viewed as the norm and it did not stop once she became a god. Despite any setbacks or how rough things have been, she has remained kind, friendly and amazingly upbeat for someone with less than a year to live. Her outlook on life is extremely optimistic and, as a god, lives to be an inspiration to people around the world. This also means being a good friend to her fellow gods, traveling to Japan twice-daily of praying to her father for their safety and those that have died.

The heartache that comes with being a teenager, especially one with such amazing power, opens her up to be both naive and gullible of those that are out there to hurt her. After all, she is responsible and tries to follow the rules but this can lead to her not fully questioning for fear of stepping out of line. This tends to get her into trouble which can lead to friends and loved ones being hurt (or rather killed, much to her horror) in the process. She believed so deeply in Ananke and her orders that she did not bother to question them until three of her fellows were already dead and a fourth was almost killed.

It is clear that their deaths weigh heavily but she is ultimately happy in the knowledge that they will all see one another soon yet again once they have passed on from the world. It is a morbid outlook to have but it is one that helps Ammy move forward in the aftermath of such horrible attacks.

Reassuring and cheerful there is a deep love that seems to expand boundlessly for each person that she meets. More than anything, she wants others to believe in her. She is here to bring light, to chase away the dark and ultimately save everyone. In the aftermath of Ananke's death there is even more purpose in her actions and she believes in her ability to help others with all her heart. In her own words, she cannot lose her faith now and fights to be the inspiration she believes she can be.

All in all, Amaterasu is a positive force of nature who loves deeply and openly. She loves her friends, the galaxy and everyone it. She wants the very best for everyone and with use her songs to fight for it with determination and overwhelming kindness.

POWER:

❚❚ AMATERASU, SHINING IN HEAVEN — CANON. As a sun goddess, Amaterasu holds an affinity with the sun and manipulation of solar energy. This is usually shown through use of an orange aura that surrounds her and her eyes taking on the appearance of solar eclipses. The following fall under her skill set as a goddess—

ENHANCED CONDITION: Like the rest of the Pantheon, Amaterasu possess an enhanced condition which grants increases her agility, durability, stamina and strength far beyond that of an ordinary human. She is, in fact, completely invulnerable to ordinary attacks aimed at her unless she is performing which weakens her dramatically in terms of her enhanced condition. These enhanced abilities allows her to fight for long periods of time and survive attacks from other gods but that would be assuming she ever did decide to fight. It has been hinted that because of her status as both a sky god and the "head" god of her pantheon makes her possibly stronger than some other gods in the group.

SOLAR MANIPULATION: As a sun goddess, it should come as no surprise that she is capable of creating, shaping and manipulating aspects of a sun. She has been shown capable of harnessing it into her hands and putting out enough energy to put her on level with an artificial sun covering an entire city. Her most visibly seen power is the ability to teleport using sunlight across great distances. It has been explained that as long as there is sunlight where she is and where she is traveling, she can travel there without issue. Ammy is also capable of taking others (upwards of three shown) with her when she uses this ability. It also allows her to shoot across small distances in the blink of an eye as little rays of light.

PERFORMANCE: As she sings, the people who hear her are experiencing the raw power of her divinity. Messages vary but Ammy is all about being good, feeling good and experiencing the wonders of the world. Her performances create an insane amount of positive energy within the audience. You're the best, she's the best and this is the best thing you have ever seen because her concerts are described as always sitting right at the climax. There is no doubt that it is like watching the clouds part and everything is suddenly so very, very clear. It's such a good thing that her entire audience passes out and some even orgasm because holy shit, it's amazing.

❚❚ DIVINE INSTRUMENTS — PORTER. As a mortal (and still very much as a goddess) there was a video game that Ammy loved very dearly about a certain sun goddess in the form of a wolf. Each weapon represents one of three of the Imperial Regalia of Japan. Her love is reborn in flesh with help from the Porter —

GLAIVES: Takes the appearance of a very large sword when summoned that hovers within her reach. Capable of powerful slow charged attacks or devastating wide-spread strikes. Although slow, her attacks are slow and put her at a large disadvantage.

REFLECTORS: Is summoned in the form of a large spinning disc. It acts mostly as a shield in order to protect her from oncoming attacks but can also be used in a offensive manner by slamming it into enemies. Does not offer full protection and can break if too much damage is taken against it.

ROSARIES: Appears as a string of magatama beads when summoned circling her neck; when used, it whips out in the form of a long chain. A very fast striking but weak weapon with each piece able to be fired like a bullet if needed. Easily broken if facing against someone capable of using decent enough shields.

❚❚ RESTORATION — PORTER. After so much loss it would be important for Ammy to gain a power she feels would help protect others from any horrors that might appear. With this powers, she would be capable of restoring anything to its their optimum state through prolonged touch. This obviously means healing wounds but it also allows her to restore life at an environmental level such plant life and purifying water.

Amaterasu takes a deep breath and counts to three. It does help calm the fire running through her nerves, exciting her terribly and leaving her heart hammering in her chest.

Beyond the colorful fabrics of the curtains, she can the hear the cheer and chants of the crowd. A huge crowed beyond anything she has ever seen here for them. Although she has gotten used to concerts with the Pantheon there was still this part of this entire process that overwhelms her in ways she could never imagine. Every person out there was here for them, who loved their songs and came to cheer them on through another concert. It is thrilling in ways that are still far beyond words even for a goddess such as herself.

The very energy they give off fills her with excitement. It leaves her beaming like the sun, hands held together as if in pray and ready to storm the stage. Their love makes her want to sing until she cannot sing anymore and it excites her knowing that she could. It's all too much and sometimes she wonders if she'll wake up one of these days back on that day, watching the sunlight and still terribly normal.

The ending of Minerva's song snaps her into focus, pinching her cheeks and waiting for her cue. It comes as Ammy lets herself be pushed up onto stage through the hidden elevator, feeling the crowd's cheers wash over like a wave. Every voice was lit in color, each sound was its own sparkle and she lets it all wash over her. Amaterasu does leave them waiting long, spinning in place as she erupts into sunlight and prisms cover the concert hall.

Again, cheers erupt and her face lights up like sunlight breaking through the clouds. She cannot fight the smile that appears on her face not like she ever would try to fight it. In one fluid motion, she twirls and raises her an arm to the crowd.

"You better be ready."
